WSBA membership provides regular training on an age-group squad basis, a County branded shirt and the possibility to represent Warwickshire in County matches, subject to performance, attendance at training, attitude and provided that parental consents are provided and the annual fee paid (set each season). Membership is offered on a single season basis with each of our badminton seasons running from 1st June to 31st May.
WSBA membership is open to junior players who are under the age of 18 (as at 31st of December following the end of the season they are applying to join for, in line with Badminton England rules). As well as meeting the necessary skill standard in badminton, a player must meet at least one of the following criteria in order to be selected: be born in / live in / or go to school in Warwickshire. Warwickshire is defined as the geographic area pre the establishment of the Metropolitan Authorities in 1972.
Players are selected to be a member of WSBA through the annual trials process which is held in May each year. Occasionally, players may be invited by our coaches to trial during the year. If selected to join one of our main squads, a player will become a member for that season, provided that their membership fee is paid by the required date in July.
Players must be able to attend WSBA training sessions regularly, and be able to attend team events if selected.
For safeguarding reasons, no player will be able to become a member without their responsible adult (parent/legal guardian) providing WSBA with their own contact details, any medical conditions related to the player, and giving necessary consents related to acting in loco parentis and certain training techniques. Every player's member record is linked to a named adult's personal contact details record, and all communications from WSBA related to the player's membership will be sent to the responsible adult. WSBA does not communicate directly with junior players, even as members, other than our coaches speaking to individual players during training or fixtures.
